A melody known as agurra (and sometimes as aurresku) has become widespread as the music to which the dance of greeting is performed, though it has also been widely used for the moment when the women are brought into the soka-dantza.(dance rope). However, José Ignacio Ansorena believes there are various contradanse tunes that may be used for the dance of greeting. For the music to fit in with the rhythm of the dance the melody must comprise two lines of eight bars each. Ansorena advises each flute & drum player to use the tunes that best suit his/ her particular style of playing.
